Inspirational colour palettes for winter 2022

Chair - New London Burgundy, HC-61

With winter arriving, it's time to head indoors and embrace the cooler months ahead. But don't be fooled by the word 'cool' - there's nothing cold about interior trends for the coming season. Our homes during winter 2022/23 will be filled with warm, nourishing colours that burst with optimism and individuality.

The functional feel of lockdown decorating has long gone, with the once radical WFH space now completely integrated into our everyday lives. What we yearn for next is the opportunity to be creative with colours and textures, creating spaces that nurture and inspire us during the darker months ahead.

We anticipate seeing a lot of experiment with a host of colourways this season and here are our top predictions:

Pretty Perfect Pinks - for uplift and optimism

We're not talking hot pink here, so beloved by Barbicore followers. What we crave are the more nuanced shades, with their deliciously complex undertones that make the colour feel much more grown-up and liveable. Expect to see a lot of pinks with an undertone of orange that could be described as coral pink or peach, or shades with a much more earthy undertone of grey/brown that have the look of terracotta or pale plaster. They're easy to live with, and easy to love.
New Rich 'Neutrals' - for balance and grounding

We're stretching the term 'neutral' here, away from a proliferation of whites and calico shades, and more towards deliciously rich, strong hues inspired by nature that will work their magic at any time of day, and in any natural light, however faded.
They're not vivid or bright, nor really traditional neutrals, but at their heart is a warmth that will help keep you and your home feeling nourished and balanced through any amount of rain, sleet or snow.
The Dark Side - for cossetting and warmth

If you've toyed with the idea of embracing your dark side over recent seasons, now is most definitely the time to be brave. The trend for dark hues continues unabated with a surge of popularity for dark teals, rich violets and plum tones, and an abundance of greens, reds and blues putting in an appearance. Visually more interesting than a deep black, these new darks rely on their rich mix of undertones to catch the light in a dynamic, invigorating way.
Bare Necessities

Yes, this autumn is bursting with colour and depth, but if you're a die-hard lover of the wonder of white, it's eminently possible to choose a neutral white shade that's also brimming with radiance. Our favourites are whites with a yellow or red undertone. Far from sterile, they'll satisfy your lust for a clean, fresh environment while enveloping you in a sense of calm at the same time. The most versatile of colour, whites look stunning in any room whether it's a colour drenched space or one mixed with saturated colours.
With the clocks now turned back for the advent of winter and the light changing every day, it's time to focus on the joy our homes can give us during this time. Whichever colours you choose to surround yourself with, use your colour scheme to celebrate the new season with a positivity and originality all your own.
